Encontro Anglo-Ibérico de Jovens Luteranos '10

Aconteceu entre os dias 2 e 6 do corrente mês o 5º Encontro Anglo-Ibérico de Jovens Luteranos em Esmoriz, Portugal. O Encontro teve o tema "Vivendo com Família Cristã" e os estudos dirigidos pelos pastores foram sobre a busca da outra metade, compromisso e construindo família em contexto de modelos alternativos. Foi muito enriquecedor a abordagem deste tema uma vez que ele expressa o que na maior parte das vezes representa os anseios e expectativas generalizadas dos jovens: uma vida a dois.
Os momentos devocionais e o Culto Divino foram expressos nas diversas línguas representadas para que todos pudessem participar de forma entusiástica de todos os aspectos do Encontro.
Foi uma boa chance para os integrantes estabelecerem novas amizades e reencontarem velhos amigos de Encontros anteriores.
Dos Açores, participaram os irmãos Silvia e Miguel Barcelos.

Anglo-Iberian Lutheran Youth Gathering
From 2 to 6 this month happened the 5º Anglo-Iberian Lutheran Youth Gathering in Esmoriz, Portugal. The event's theme was "Living as a Christian Family" and the bible studies leaded by the pastors were about the search for the other half, commitment and constructing a family in a context of alternative models. It was so treasureable the approach of this theme as it espresses what most commonly represents the expectations of the youth: living together as a couple.
The devocional moments and the Divine Service were spoken in the diverse languages represented in the Gathering so everybody could participate enthusiasticaly os every aspect.
It was a good chance for the participants to establish new friendships and to spend time again with old friends from previous Gatherings.
From Azores there were the siblings Silvia and Miguel Barcelos.

A FAMÍLIA DE DEUS ORA - Semana 2 - "Orações do Arrependido"

Texto bíblico: Lucas 18.9-14

A fé arrependida é o ingrediente vital nas orações do crente. Este ingrediente completa a receita de uma oração com significado e sentido. A confissão é parte importante na oração pois significa o reconhecimento do pecado. O reconhecimento do pecado significa ser coerente com a verdade e o afastamento do engano (1 João 1.8). Quem resiste a confessar o seu pecado a Deus persiste na ilusão do engano.
A confiança nas próprias habilidades para ganhar o favor de Deus está na base do desprezo dos outros. As nossas acções não garantem um estatuto perante Deus. Pelo contrário, "todos pecaram e carecem da glória de Deus" (Romanos 3.23). Não há excepção, isso quer dizer, todos. Contudo, graças a Deus, não há lei sem evangelho: "Se confessarmos os nossos pecados, ele é fiel e justo para nos perdoar os pecados e nos purificar de toda injustiça" (1 João 1.9). Deus perdoa o pecador arrependido.

GOD'S FAMILY PRAYS - week 2 - "Prayers of the Repentent"

Bible text: Luke 18.9-14

Repentent faith is the vital ingredient of a beliver prayer. This ingredient completes the recipe of a meaningful prayer. Confession holds a important role in prayer because it means acknowledgement of sin. Acknoledgement of sin means to be consistent with thruth and to walk out of deceit (1 John 1.8). Whoever resist to confess their sin to God persist on the ilusion of deceit.
The trust in our own habilities to win God's favor it's on the basis for disrespect of others. Our actions do not guarantee a status before God. On the other way around, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3.23). There is no exception it means all.
However, thanks to God, there's no law without gospel: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 Jonh 1.9). God forgives the repentent sinner.

Aconteceu

Hoje, Sábado dia 15, uma escola bíblica com as crianças. Esteve presente a Isabel, o Pedro e a Mónica. A história foi contada pela missionária Clara Barcelos e falava acerca do Rei Josias que foi coroado rei aos 8 anos de idade. Foi um rei bom, prudente, sábio e que andou nos caminhos do Senhor ao longo da sua vida, quebrando com os maus costumes que o povo de Israel havia adoptado no seu meio nos últimos anos.
Houve trabalhos manuais e brincadeiras.

Today, Saturday 15th, happened a bible school with the kids. There were Isabel, Pedro and Mónica. The bible story was told by the missionary Clara Barcelos and was about the king Josiah who became king when he was 8 years old. He was a good king, prudent, wise and walked on the Lord's paths all his life breaking the bad customs that the peolple of Israel had adopted on their midst last times.
There were manual woks and plays.

A FAMÍLIA DE DEUS ORA - Semana 1 - "Dá Graças!"

Texto bíblico: Lucas 17.11-19

O nosso louvor grato, é mais do que meros pensamentos, palavras e sentimentos. As bênçãos que Jesus nos dá são incontáveis e estupendas. Não há retribuição porque não temos nada para dar - são imerecidas. A gratidão impulsiona a Adoração e traz-nos à presença de Jesus. O nosso louvor é físico e espiritual. Jesus convida-te a superar todas as barreiras que te afastam de momentos na Sua presença, do Culto, da leitura da Sua Palvavra e da oração. Ele conhece-te tão profundamente que nenhum detalhe da tua vida lhe passa despercebido. Ele quer estar em estrita comunhão contigo.
Tira algum tempo e pensa em algumas razões pelas quais possas estar grato/a a Deus. Percebe a Sua acção na tua vida. Lembra-te do maior presente que Ele te dá, de graça, pela fé Nele: a Salvação. É isso mesmo, de graça! É de graça, é imerecida, não há retribuição. Crê somente!
Por tudo isso, damos-Lhe graças!

GOD'S FAMILY PRAY - Week 1 - "Give Thanks!"

Bible text: Luke 17.11-19

Our grateful praise is more than mere thoughts, words and feelings. The blessings Jesus gives us are countless and stupendous. There is no repayment because we have nothing to give - they are undeserved. Gratitude impels Worship and brings us to Jesus' presence. Our praise is physical and spiritual. Jesus invites you to overcome all barriers that keeps you away of moments in His presence, of Worship, of reading His Word and of prayer. He knows you so deeply to the point there's no detail in your life that goes unnoticed. He wants to be in deep touch with you.
Take some time and think on some reasons for wich you might be grateful to God. Realize His action in your life. Remind yourself of the greatest gift He gives you, by grace, through faith in Him: Salvation. Just like that, for free! It's by grace, it's undeserved, there's no repayment. Just believe!
For all that, we give Him thanks!

Last weekend (03/12-14) we counted on pastor's Genivaldo Agner presence with us here on Terceira island. These pictures show the outreach activity we took on Sunday morning when we distributed the fliers "There is still Hope!" at S. Mateus mail boxes.

These fliers divulge the note-books we mail out in PDF format wich tell about daily life situations such us, Stress, Depression, How to overcome Solitude, Courage for difficult times, Child Education, Drugs, Being Familiy, Being Mother, Being Father, Angels.

HAITI

Ainda é tempo de ajudar o povo que sofre no Haiti. No dia 12 de Janeiro um terramoto de 7,0º na escala de Richter atingiu o Haiti. Estima-se que haja pelo menos 200,000 mortos e inúmeros feridos e desalojados. As necessidades são toda a ordem e podem ser tão básicas como a necessidade de água, comida e abrigo. Coisas a que estamos cómodamente habituados. Ainda é tempo de ajudar. Se queres ajudar mas não sabes como, segue-se uma de muitas formas possíveis. Poderás fazê-lo através da Lutheran World Relief (LWR). É uma organização não governamental vocacionada para a resposta a situações de crise. Actua um pouco por todo o mundo e está activamente no terreno da Haiti.

It is still time to help the suffering people of Haiti. On the day 12 of January a 7,0 earthquake hit Haiti. There's at least 200,000 estimated dead people, countless injured and homeless. The needs are of all sorts and they may be so basic as the need for water, food and shelter. Things that we are so comfortably used to. It is still time to help. If you want to help but don't know how here follows a way among many other possible. You can do it through the Lutheran World Relief (LWR). It is a non-governmental organization focused to act in response to crisis. LWR works all over the world and is actively working on the ground of Haiti.

Ano Novo, vida nova!

Esta é uma expressão muito comum entre as pessoas... Ano novo significa viragem, significa esperança numa mudança para melhor. Nesta altura, fazem-se promessas, elaboram-se planos, tomam-se decisões para o tempo que aí vem mas, também, faz-se o balanço das coisas que já passaram. É, por isso, tempo de reflexão. Porém, nesta altura, mais do que olhar para o passado, olhamos para o futuro, delineamos projectos. Alguns deles já estão claros; outros nem tanto. É importante sermos realistas, é importante procurarmos, é importante esforçarmo-nos para que tudo dê certo. Dará? As incertezas em relação ao futuro fazem-nos buscar algo que nos dê confiança. Podemos procurá-la em muitos lugares... Podemos confiar na sorte, procurá-la em previsões (que por vezes são tão erradas quanto absurdas), mas nenhuma nos dará consolo como confiar no menino da manjedoura, Jesus.
Nesta altura também abrimos o champanhe lá em casa e comemoramos com familiares e amigos essa mesma alegria e esperança que nos trás o ano novo. Esperança que só tem sentido porque Jesus nasceu. É, por isso, também,tempo de celebração.
Que, olhando para o futuro, não nos esqueçamos das coisas que passaram pois, com elas, Deus promove a aprendizagem; e que, ao planearmos, nunca esqueçamos que o mais importante é incluir Deus nos nossos planos e buscar a sua orientação, pois, todo o nosso forço vão se Deus não concordar com o que planeamos (cf.Pv 16.9).

New year, new life!
This is a very commom expression among people... New year means upturn, means hope in a change for better. On this season, promises are made, plans are elaborate, decisions are taken for the time that is coming but we also make the evaluation of the things that just passed. So, it's time for reflection.
Neverthless, on this season more than looking back we look to the future, we sketch projects. Some of them are already clear on our minds, others not as much. It is important to be realistic, it is important to look forward, it is important to struggle so that everything runs as expected. Will it do? The uncertainties about the future push us to seek something that gives us confidence. We can search it in many places... We can trust in luck or search it on predictions (wich most of them are as mistaken as absurd), but none of them will give us comfort as trusting on the child of the manger, Jesus.
By this time we also open the champagne bottles back there, at home, and celebrate with family and friends this gladness and hope that brings us the new year. Gladness and hope that only finds its meaning because Jesus to us is born. So it's also time for celebration.
May we, as we look forward to the future do not forget the things that passed. They are a way God promotes learning; and may we as we plan do not forget that the most important thing is to include God on our plans and search for His guidance because all our efforts will be worthless if God disagree with what we've planned (Pv 16.9).
